Anti-Sway
Experienced crane operators can reduce load sway by moving the boom ahead of the load movement. That is, if the crane is operating on a fixed platform. If the crane is mounted on a floating platform, such as a ship, reducing the sway is a very difficult task. Controllab has therefore developed an anti-sway controller for offshore cranes.
The controller measures the load swing and actively dampens it by making small corrections to the crane’s movement. The operator is still in charge of the crane, but the controller adds small corrections to keep the load stable during any movement. In the video you can see the anti-sway controller in action as the operator moves a load from a wind turbine platform.
